If you are right handed, it usually works out best to use your left hand for holding the cigar.
- Light your lighter: If you don't have a cigar lighter, get one soon! Butane cigar lighters are ideal for lighting up a cigar because they provide a strong, steady, clean flame. Wooden matches will also work but it's much easier with a cigar lighter. Don't use any sort of flame that is scented as this will affect the cigar's flavor.
- Lighting the cigar: Holding the cigar to your mouth, keep it just above the flame and start puffing on it. Don't touch the actual flame to the cigar itself.
- Rotation: While lighting and puffing on the cigar, slowly rotate it with your fingers until the outer rim of the lit end begins to glow. At this point, it should be easy to draw the smoke and the cigar is officially and properly lit.
