Elite Series cigars are impeccably constructed and feature sophisticated blends that invite comparison to certain high-end national brands. We've been told that our Elite Connecticut tastes a lot like a Montecristo and that our Elite Maduro reminds smokers of an Ashton Aged Maduro. Would you believe that our Elite Habano has even been compared to a Cuban Cohiba?! All Elite Series cigars are available in four sizes – Churchill (7-½" x 50), Corona (6-½" x 46), Robusto (5" x 50), or Torpedo (6" x 52) – and come packaged in sixteen count boxes. Enjoy comparable taste at half the price!

The most famous trademark of them all. Montecristo. For cigar enthusiasts the world over, the name Montecristo means smoking enjoyment par excellence. Each carefully aged cigar, hand-rolled with Cuban-seed filler and Connecticut Shade wrapper, delivers a deep, complex, unforgettable smoke. That's what makes Montecristo among the most famous cigar trademarks of them all. Regrettably, that's also what makes them some of the most difficult to obtain cigars. We've waited for years to get some of these shapes, and we know from experience they will disappear in a heartbeat. So if you want to experience the incomparable pleasure of your own supply of Montecristo, we urge you to act quickly.

Great for an every day smoke

G-man from Baton Rouge, La reviewed the EROS CHURCHILL SUMATRA

A great daily smoke. Quite enjoyable especially for the price.

Bottomline: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Rating:

Pros: Easy To Light, Good Draw, Great Flavor
Cons: Occasional wrapper flaws
Best Uses: Events, Everyday
Describe Yourself: Aspiring Aficionado

If you like Partagas, Montecristo, Davidoff, cigars that sell for seven and eight bucks apiece, you'll love Eros. It has Cuban-seed, Nicaraguan grown Piloto Cubano long filler tobaccos. These filler leaves are carefully selected, double fermented, and aged to their peak of mildness. To this wonderful blend is added a prime Dominican Olor binder which produces a rich subtlety. But by far the most delightful part is Eros' wrapper. It's a beautiful, sweet-smoking Ecuadorian. The product of loving attention from farm to finished cigar, Eros earns its name.

By all rights, a smoke this good ought to cost dearly, but not Eros. Though it possesses a level of quality unheard of in a mass-market cigar, despite its excellence, it's surprisingly affordable. Truly, Eros presents the flavor and quality of a boutique cigar at a mass market price.

This is a surprisingly good inexpensive smoke.Everyone that has tried one, liked it.I would not hesitate to hand one to a friend.

Describe Yourself: Cigar Aficionado

One of the Dominican Republic’s elder statesmen of cigar manufacturers, José Girbés is something of an elitist. Never one to push production, Girbés has maintained a low profile, low production atelier that is below the radar screen when calling attention to big production numbers. He knows big numbers often do not translate into high quality, and he prefers to expend all his efforts on keeping his beloved namesake cigar the best. To that end, you’ll not likely see a José Girbés cigar competing for ratings against the likes of Montecristo or Macanudo. That’s just not Girbés’ style.

Perhaps it’s because he’s content to purchase his tobaccos in minuscule lots so that he can personally examine each bale, keeping tabs on it during its three-year aging. He can personally take a practiced hand in the blending of the exquisite naturally double fermented San Vicente Valley long fillers. He can personally train and oversee his elite cadre of torcedores as they work with prized Brazilian Arapiraca Maduro wrapper leaves. For such reasons as these, José Girbés keeps his production low, very, very low.

But that’s why no one, but no one beats José Girbés for consistency. His value prices speak for themselves. Nowhere will you find a better-made cigar at the price of a José Girbés.

Chavon cigars take on the big names in the Dominican

Sunday, December 12, 2010 by Trevor Billingsley
Chavon cigars aren't the biggest name in the world of Dominican cigars, nor is that really the company's goal. It's looking to be the best, not the biggest, and the craftsmanship of the cigars is a demonstration of that.Chavon cigars

As a result, what we have here is one of the most underrated cigars around. While it produces cigars with a number of different wrappers, it is known mainly for its Maduros.

My favorite is probably the Chavon Torpedo No. 1 Maduro cigars. Of course, this is a hand-made cigar with long filler Piloto Cubano and Dominican Olor, and I'm always a fan of the Maduro wrapper so I'm an easy sell here. But the deal here isn't that I like the Chavon Maduro cigars, it's how much I like them -- enough to place it ahead of the likes of Montecristos in the humidor, so I always have them close at hand.

And I like them because they are a litmus test of sorts. If someone I know professes to enjoy Dominican cigars, or says they only smoke Maduros, I'd expect them to know about Chavon cigars. If not, I tend to assume that they haven't yet explored beyond the obvious big names in the industry. But if they recognize the label, and especially if they've tried it and can talk about its strengths and weaknesses, that's a sign that they know their stuff, and that we'll probably get along just fine.

The Dynamic Dozen

Saturday, December 11, 2010 by Trevor Billingsley
If you've been following this blog for any length of time, you've probably noticed that I'm a sucker for good cigar samplers. I love getting a few examples of a variety of premium cigars, rather than investing in a single box from a single manufacturer. It gives me more options to choose from in my humidor, and there's nothing I like more than a well-stocked variety of smokes.

Here's one that I somehow missed until I saw it in the "Hot Buys" section -- the 12 Cigar Selection Sampler. It's one of those things that seems like it was made for me, with some of the best Dominican cigars available in three legendary brand names.

Each of these boxes comes with four H Upmann cigars, four Montecristo cigars, and four Romeo y Julieta cigars. All three were originally made famous in Cuba (and still compete there with different cigars sold under the same name in Havana), but since having left the island have maintained their fierce reputation for superior cigars.

When I got my first one of these, they didn't last very long in the cigar humidor. Both individually and collectively, these are hard cigars to resist.
