Accompany a Good Book with a Good Cigar

Saturday, May 19, 2012 by Pat The Cigar Guy

HEMINGWAY SAMPLERFor some aficionados, sitting down to a good book can be nearly as relaxing as enjoying a high-rated smoke or playing 18 holes of golf on a gorgeous summer day. In all honesty, it would have to be a pretty darn good book to compare to teeing up on the greens but reading is a surefire way to stimulate the mind and provides a means of escape from worries and stress. Whereas some aficionados prefer to accompany that book with ice and a good Scotch, cigars are even better for appreciating well-written prose.

You can also match a cigar to your reading material. If you have a fishing-related book or magazine in your hands, a mild, Sumatra wrapped smoke will put you in that same sort of Zen-like frame of mind generated by wading into a creek in pursuit of wily trout. When reading the "Snows of Kilimanjaro" and other short stories by the adventurous Ernest Hemingway,  what better stick to light up than Arturo Fuente cigars of the same name?

Whether reading your daily copy of the Wall Street Journal, enjoying good fiction, or perusing a magazine, a good cigar is going to add depth to the experience.

Find good smokes for reading at Thompson Cigars today.

A quality smoke at a reasonable price.

Dick from Athens, AL reviewed the VSOP PANETELA NATURAL

I enjoy a good cigar when I'm enjoying the great outdoors.

Bottomline: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Rating:

Pros: Easy To Light, Good Draw, Great Flavor
Best Uses: Everyday

These are every inch premium grade cigars. With smokers now concentrating their buying on the name brand smokes, we have acquired the brand and remaining inventory of the VSOP line. The tobaccos here are largely Dominican filler and binder with an Indonesian wrapper. It’s a tried and true combination that Dominican manufacturers of name brand cigars have been selling by the millions for decades, definitely a mild to medium-bodied smoke that delivers as much as you would expect from a Romeo y Julieta-type cigar: not too heavy or strong, not too light, and for far less than what you would have to pay for a cigar with a more famous band around it.

Good Everyday Cigars, Even Better Prices!

Monday, May 14, 2012 by Pat The Cigar Guy

THOMPSON BLACK LABEL CORONA HABANOOne of the barriers to premium cigars are their prices. Well, actually, when you buy smokes from Thompson Cigars that's not necessarily true. You can actually get great deals every day of the week if you check out the auction page, and browse the website for discounts. Since new sales happen all the time, it pays to look through the Thompson Cigars website once or even twice a day. That said, if you aren't lucky enough to get them for a big discount, high-rated cigars are going to cost more and are sometimes out of your weekly price range.

It's always worth it to save up for the high quality smokes but you can still enjoy great cigars for low prices when you buy packs of Thompson Black Label Corona Habanos. These smokes are for aficionados on a budget but don't sacrifice taste, nor quality. Mild to medium in strength, they make for perfect everyday smokes. Packed with a blend of high quality tobacco and rolled in a Habano wrapper, these discount smokes will surprise you with their easy draw and pleasant flavors.

For one of the best deals around, buy a few packs of Thompson Black Label Corona Habanos from Thompson today.

Padron fan

Randall from Williamsburg, VA reviewed the PADRON 1964 ANIVERSARIO DIPLOMATICO NATURAL CHURCHILL

I bought the natural wrapper on auction and got a good deal on these. I love Padron and thought this would be near the top of the list. My experience is that they are a well constructed cigar except that the wrapper seems thin and a little delicate. The flavor is mild and certainly is a good cigar, but I have to say that it isn't everything I hoped it would be.

Bottomline: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Rating:

Pros: Easy To Light, Good Draw
Cons: Wrapper Imperfections
Best Uses: Special Occasions
Describe Yourself: Two a week smoker

Less than 5% of Padrón’s torcedores are deemed experienced enough to work on the company’s exclusive Anniversary Series, so less than 5% of the company’s already modest output is devoted to these cigars. With so few in production, the Anniversary Series is carefully allotted, and we have laboriously hoarded all we have been offered until we accumulated enough inventory to feature it in our catalog. Obviously, we cannot be sure when we will be able to repeat this offer. Due to the high demand and low production it’s unlikely these cigars can be found easily anywhere else, so we urge you to get them while you can

Premium Cigars that Blend Tobacco from Opposite Sides of the Globe

Tuesday, May 8, 2012 by Pat The Cigar Guy

There are many factors that go into the making of fine cigars. First and foremost, the tobacco has to BARLOVENTO CHURCHILL MADUROproduce leaf that has been cultivated for this purpose. Growers select and propagate plants that produce the types of leaves that will add the flavors and textures they have been searching for. Such high quality plants don't grow in any old soils or climate either. They flourish in tropical and subtropical regions and this is why tobacco plants cultivated in the Dominican Republic produce such fine, quality leaves.

Another place where tobacco thrives is actually on the other side of the world. Indonesia, and the island of Sumatra in particular, has rich, volcanic soils and a wet, tropical climate that result in leaves that are filled with complex flavors. When a master cigar maker combines fine, fermented tobacco from both of these tropical islands, he can come up with some fantastic smokes. One such brand that offers the delicious combination of Sumatran and Dominican leaf is the Thompson Cigars exclusive Barlovento brand. Aficionados who discover this mild to medium high quality smoke usually want to keep the secret of its good taste to themselves in the hope that they continue to be offered for the same low price.

Willie from Lakeland,TN reviewed the THOMPSON HONDURAN FINAS CHURCHILL CONNECTICUT

I use this product everyday as a way of stress reduction. It has a very mild flavor from start to finish. I like to relight cigars often. This cigar stays mild light after light.

Bottomline: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Rating:

Pros: Easy To Light, Good Draw, Great Flavor, Undamaged Wrapper, Well Constructed

Describe Yourself: Aspiring Aficionado

As you know, we love to compare our house product with the nationally distributed brands that sell for $4, $5, $6, and $7 per stick, especially when we can offer our own fine product at a fraction of their price, prices so low you can save $75 to $100 a box. Enter Honduran Finas. The cigars in this box of fifty are designed to supply the dedicated smoker with as good a taste as you can expect at economy prices. Our manufacturer Nestor Plasencia grows, packs, and cures all his own tobacco, exercising the most extraordinary control over the product from the seed to the finished cigar.

Honduran Finas are basically a Cuban-seed cigar embodying all the characteristics you expect from Havana tobacco. The only exception is the Maduro wrapper grown from Cuban seeds in Costa Rica, a country that has only lately become an important Maduro leaf supplier. There, growers benefit from steep hillsides, avoiding the morning sun and allowing the wrapper tobacco to luxuriate in the afternoon sun and absorb the nutrients that give the Costa Rican Maduro a unique and delightful taste that connoisseurs are raving about.

The Natural wrapper is Connecticut seed, sun grown in Honduras without shade. This growing process yields medium shades of Natural wrappers containing the tastes desired by today’s smoker.

Try the Honduran Finas in the 30-count sampler. This is an unprecedented way to explore not only the variety of sizes and shapes of Honduran Finas, but to do so in depth. The 30-count box affords the smoker a number of examples of each cigar, allowing first impressions to become lasting impressions. In the long tradition of Thompson’s providing value for the money, the Thompson Honduran Finas is the latest and most satisfying example.

With a consistently mellow taste, Macanudo is the number one premium cigar in the United States today. Part of the reason for this is that the centuries-old traditional Cuban method of aging its Connecticut shade-grown wrapper not once but twice is still followed by Macanudo. From seed to harvest, Macanudo’s Cigar Master, Daniel Nuñez, is in charge of every Macanudo Connecticut Valley Shade crop. The best carefully hand-selected premium long filler tobaccos from Jamaica and the Dominican Republic make the Macanudo sought after for its mildness and flavor by knowledgeable cigar smokers everywhere. A dark, supple leaf from Mexico makes up the binder in this favorite. Highly prized by cigar smokers is its unvarying mellowness, year after year.
