My Humidor Favorite

Friday, December 9, 2011 by Customer Reviews

Mark from Biloxi, Mississippi reviewed the THOMPSON LA MONEDA 2-FER MADURO TORPEDO

This cigar is my all time Thompson favorite. For the price, nothing comes close to this product, anywhere. I travel frequently to many carribean islands, Costa Rica, and Aruba. Cuban cigars are available to me there and I still prefer my LaMoneda

Bottomline: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Rating:

Pros: Easy To Light, Good Draw, Great Flavor, Undamaged Wrapper, Well Constructed
Best Uses: Everyday, Gifts
Describe Yourself: Aspiring Aficionado

The La Moneda has filler tobacco from the famed '97 crop – it doesn't get any better. Then the Dominican manufacturer, has aged this most select filler an extra six months longer than usual before it is used to make one of the smoothest hand rolled cigars we've come across in a long time. Add a sale price that is truly a sale, and you have an irresistible deal. Unfortunately, the supply is limited, so we urge you to act quickly to get your supply before they're all gone. A Few Low-priced Cigar Gifts

Wednesday, November 23, 2011 by Pat The Cigar Guy
Cigars and items associated with a quality smoking experience aren't necessarily cheap. This only makes sense when you consider that many cigars are works of art meant to be experienced with careful, relaxed draws and are reserved for special occasions. CUTTER DOUBLE GUILLOTINENevertheless, there are times when we would rather pay less for certain items. One of those times happens to be the holidays. While we might buy a quality humidor or classy cigar lighter for a good aficionado friend or nephew, splurging on expensive gifts for a top sales team or employees isn't exactly a priority.

We still want to give them something nice, but just don't want to break the bank on doing so. The following are a few gift item ideas for such situations:
  • Value priced cigar cutters: These make for great stocking stuffers and basic gifts without costing an arm and a leg. Just because they cost less doesn't mean that they aren't quality gift items either.
  • Discount cigars: Buy 20 packs of Caudillo Churchills and give four cigars to each person as part of their holiday present.
  • Stub cigar sampler: Buy a bunch of these and give four to each person to compliment the Caudillo Churchills.
Save on cigars and other cigar-related gift items by shopping at the best online cigar store.

Its a good cheaper smoke , when its on sale

Bottomline: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Rating:

Pros: Easy To Light, Good Draw, Great Flavor, Undamaged Wrapper, Well Constructed
Best Uses: Great evening smok, Special Occasions
Describe Yourself: Special Occasion Smoker

It's been a long time since you've seen this good a cigar at such an affordable price. It's real value for your money. Of course, part of the reason we're able to bring this good a cigar to you at less than 75 cents apiece is because you buy them in bundles. When there's no fancy cedar box to pay for and no high advertising costs associated with the product, the cost of the cigar is more affordable. And these are quality cigars, ones worthy of your humidor, ones you can make your everyday smoke. These are cigars from facilities we choose with care, and because we buy them in bulk, you save. Limit 2 bundles per customer.

School for Scoundrels

Friday, February 11, 2011 by Trevor Billingsley
If you're having an office social gathering or a professional networking event and want to provide something that will both provide an excellent smoke and a chortle, take a look at these Scoundrels cigars.Scoundrels cgars

Scoundrels cigars are old-school in a lot of ways. They are made in the classic Cheroot style, which hearkens back to the early days of cigar making. Each is hand-made from mild Dominican tobacco, and capped off with a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper. The result is a creamy and mild smoke that anyone can appreciate it.

But the other thing to note, especially if you have a sense of humor, is the label. The bundle of Scoundrels cigars features a classic cartoon tycoon, hair slicked back, smoking a cigar with a huge "I'm-rolling-in-dough" expression on his face. It's perfect for the person, or the social occasion, that enjoys cigars and can spare an ironic chuckle as they smoke.

The Scoundrels cigars also may be the best deal we have now at Thompson Cigar -- and as you may have guessed if you've checked out the site for more than a minute, you know that's saying a lot. A bundle of 75 is on sale right now for $49, so each cigar basically costs the coins you get as change when you buy your morning coffee. For those prices, these are a great deal even for use as a holiday party centerpiece -- just make sure to snag them for the humidor afterwords if nobody breaks open the package!

Luxury gifts that won't break the bank

Thursday, January 27, 2011 by Trevor Billingsley
If you're looking for gift ideas -- and this time of year, you probably are -- you should click on the "Luxury Cigar Gifts" link even if you're on a budget.Padron No. 88 Sampler

At Thompson Cigar, "luxury" isn't a fancy way of saying "really expensive." In fact, plenty of the items highlighted there are less than $50. Instead, these are "luxury" items in the classic sense of the word, which carries the definition: "a pleasure out of the ordinary allowed to oneself."

Take the
Padrón No. 88 Sampler, for example. It comes with five great Padrón cigars -- a Padrón 2000, Padrón 3000, Padrón 4000, Padrón 5000, and Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series Exclusivo. Each of these is an outstanding smoke that will brighten anyone's day ... and the whole package costs just $37.

There's also the Classic Cherry Combo, one of the most popular gift items that Thompson Cigar sells. The package includes a great humidor, an individual cigar tube, and 25 imported handmade cigars. That little package of luxury will cost you a little more ... $45.

One of the great things about cigars is that they are affordable luxury. A premium cigar experience doesn't have to break the budget, and the
Luxury Cigar Gifts for sale here are great illustrations of that fact.

Last chance for these small barrel humidors

Saturday, December 25, 2010 by Trevor Billingsley
If you like the look of small barrel humidors this is your last chance to pick up some popular models at Thompson Cigar before they're gone for good.Golden Ebony Small Barrel Humidor

The Rosewood Small Barrel Humidor and the Golden Ebony Small Barrel Humidor are each on sale for $89.95 until they've all vanished from our warehouses. Each holds up to 75 cigars in cedar-lined comfort, with a humidifier and built-in hygrometer.

These humidifiers work very well as display pieces. The domed viewing lid makes it stand out, and begs the contents to be noticed. Because of that, you'll want to put your premium cigars in there if you're planning on placing this in your office or in an area that gets a lot of traffic, since you never know what cigar aficionado will stop by and take a peek. Make sure the cigars that are on the top rows on the best conversation pieces.

And don't worry about the best cigars being pilfered. This comes with a lock and key, so you can secure them at the end of the day if you need to. It won't keep out a determined professional sneak thief, but it will probably keep that cheapskate in accounting from pilfering your Padron cigars after you leave for the day.

Getting what you pay for with Davidoff

Friday, December 17, 2010 by Trevor Billingsley
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Davidoff cigar accessories are not the cheapest on the market. If you're looking to save some cash, there are plenty of other great buys available on Thompson cigar.

But here's the thing. You won't find anything of higher quality, or made of finer materials, or with greater care.

Take the Davidoff travel humidor, for example. The small travel humidor holds between four and six cigars, and is currently on sale for a little over $800. If all you're looking for is something to keep your cigars safe when you travel, you can certainly find cheaper cigar humidors.

But for many of us, it's more than the bottom line that matters. It's the handmade object crafted from the finest materials. It's the look that stands out from the crowd and is guaranteed to impress whenever anyone sees it. It's the functionality that will keep your cigars fresh under harsh conditions.

In short, Davidoff cigar accessories are designed to be the best. And if you are someone who demands the best of everything and won't rest until you find it, well, we make it easy here at Thompson cigar. The best travel humidor is the one that is pictured to your right, and getting one is as easy as clicking the "add to cart" button.

Thoughts to consider when buying a humidor

Thursday, December 16, 2010 by Trevor Billingsley
Buying a humidor can be a surprisingly tricky process, since there are so many varieties to choose from. Before you make a decision, here are some factors to consider.

First of all, size matters. Do you smoke enough that only a large humidor makes sense? Or do you need a small humidor that will fit on a desk or a bookshelf? Or perhaps something in between. That decision can be made based on factors like smoking habits and storage space, but make sure that whatever you choose is large enough to meet your needs.

And of course, most of us have a particular look that we prefer. Many like glass top humidors for their ability to display their cigars why keeping them safe. Others are looking for something a little different -- I like the Zebra 50-Count Humidor, because it blends in very well with my office decoration and can pass for an artistic box for curios as well as a great place to store my smokes.

Whatever you're looking for, it's probably among the humidors for sale here.

Don't forget about ashtrays when you look for combos

Sunday, December 12, 2010 by Trevor Billingsley
Cigar ashtrays may be the most underrated of the cigar accessories. They aren't as cool or portable as cigar cutters or cigar lighters, and they won't keep your cigars fresh like humidors will. But somehow, I always find myself searching in vain for these when I have guests over.Cigar plus Ashtray Combo

I think that's because when I first started smoking cigars, I didn't think much about ashtrays. Generally, I used a plastic cup half-filled with stale beer to do the trick at the end of the night, because that's just the kind of classy guy I was. And don't snicker -- I'm betting you've done that yourself once upon a time.

Then I reached an age where I realized that just looked silly. You get out of college and grad school, you start having to wear ties at work, and the plastic cup starts to look ridiculous. And then you start playing catch-up to try and get enough cigar ashtrays to not look unsophisticated when company comes over, and odds are that you just start picking up random ones that don't do the job well or break too easily.

One quick way of making up the gap: One of the cigars plus ashtray combos for sale at Thompson Cigar.  There are a lot of options, but if your cigar preferences are like mine you can't go wrong with the H Upmann Magnum with Ashtray combo. It's five excellent cigars plus a stylish ashtray, so you get both the smokes and something practical for you and your guests to put them out in. Because really, aren't we all too old to go back to that plastic cup thing?

Cigars for charity

Monday, November 22, 2010 by Trevor Billingsley
Many offices have charity drives this time of year, some of which are more elaborate than others. Ours is one of those that tuns into a competition where each division tries to raise more money than everyone else with various fund-raisers. A lot of these wind up being traditional events, like bake sales or used book sales, but there are also more social affairs like chili cook-offs and happy hours.

For this year's fund-raising drive, I'm suggesting something involving cigars.

For a nominal fee, 100% of which will be given to the charity, I'll donate some cigar bundles and the necessary accessories for an afternoon in the courtyard outside our building. Everyone can enjoy a premium cigar and relax for some small portion of the afternoon, and if we combine that with a bake sale or wine sale it could raise quite a bit of cash.

Your office may not be quite that into the holiday charity drive, but there are other ways to make cigars part of your charitable giving. If your child's school holds a silent auction, for example, the Classic Cherry Combo may be something that generates interest. It will likely fetch more than the $45 price tag, and because it includes both cigars and a humidor it is appealing to novice smokers as well as experienced ones.

I'm optimistic that my cigar day idea will be approved. After all, do we really need another bake sale this December? Aren't we all eating plenty of desserts on our own, between the Halloween candy, the pumpkin pie, and the Christmas cookies? I'm thinking folks might view cigars as a nice change of pace.

Changes at CAO?

Friday, November 12, 2010 by Trevor Billingsley
As of early November, there were rumors that CAO International would be closing up shop and its distribution taken over by General Cigar. This would be the result of the merger of CAO's parent company, Scandinavian Tobacco, with Swedish Match. The Internet was abuzz, with many (including me) wondering what this might mean for the availability and continued high quality of CAO cigars.

Regardless of what eventually happens, whether any change in distribution affects the end product or whether the same systems and processes remain in place, things like this mark a good time to take a step back and think about what these mergers, acquisitions, and trends mean to you as a cigar smoker. And to me, they mean "buy another humidor."

That's because if you like a particular cigar, there's always a chance that its situation could change with any new ownership or corporate restructuring. The new bosses could discontinue a brand with low sales even if it has a vocal cult following, or it could encourage changes in the recipe that make it a different smoking experience. It all depends on whether the balance between tradition, quality and the bottom line remains the same.

In general, I always take my cue from the company turnover following a takeover. Which prominent figures stay, and which ones depart, give me a sense of what the state of the company will be going forward, and I plan my buys accordingly.

This time, even the rumor was enough for me to pick up an extra box of the CAO Brazilia Gordos, just in case the smoke led to fire. That's one of my favorite cigars, and I wanted to make sure I had some on hand just in case I might not have the opportunity later.
