For our Rocky Patel loyalists who prefer a milder smoke, we're proud to present Rocky Patel Factory Overruns Series E with an Ecuadoran Connecticut wrapper and complex blend of Nicaraguan and Honduran long fillers. These Rocky Patel Factory Overruns were originally intended to grace the pages of Thompson catalogs with a price tag approaching $8 a stick but, alas, ole' Rocky kicked them outta' the box because of a few sunspots and color variations in the wrapper. His loss is your gain! Rocky Patel Factory Overruns Series E are available in five sizes – Churchill (7" x 48), Double Corona (7-½" x 52), Sixty (6" x 60), Toro (6" x 52), and Torpedo (6" x 52) – and come in a 16 pack. Save more than 50% off of the original MSRP through this Thompson Exclusive!

Yet Another Amazing Deal on a Cigar Sampler

Wednesday, May 2, 2012 by Pat The Cigar Guy

TOP DRAWER TEN SAMPLEREvery time I check out the Thompson Cigars website, I see some great deal that grabs my attention like a humidor stocked with 90 plus rated smokes. For example, today, as soon as I navigated to the Thompson homepage, I see that there is a sampler on sale made up of ten, seriously rated smokes. Regularly priced at $79, the thing only costs $39.95! When I started reading about the brands used in this sampler, I realized this was definitely a steal because it includes:

  • Two Arturo Fuentes: A pair of excellent smokes from one of the world's top cigar makers that promise a seriously smooth smoking experience.
  • Two 92 rated Rocky Patel Vintage 1990s: The filler tobacco in these smokes was aged for eight long years to produce a medium stick with fantastic flavors.
  • Three 94 rated Alec Bradley Tempus: Yes, three high quality smokes that earned a rating of 94! The dark maduro wrapper works with high quality Nicaraguan and Honduran filler to make this a smoke to remember.
  • Three Belmondo Habanos: Quality Dominican and Cuban seed tobaccos combine with a Habano binder and wrapper to create this masterpiece.

Find this excellent deal and all of your aficionado needs at Thompson Cigars.

TUT from Raymore, MO reviewed the PUNCH RARE COROJO EL DOBLE COROJO GORDO

This cigar has a unique flavor, and speaks for itself. It is a treat from the typical premium cigar. I enjoyed this cigar as much as the Ashton VSG. I highly recommend this cigar to anyone looking for a unique quality cigar.

Bottomline: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros: Easy To Light, Good Draw, Great Flavor, Undamaged Wrapper, Well Constructed

Describe Yourself: Aspiring Aficionado

For decades, with only limited success, tobacco growers everywhere have been attempting to emulate the famed Cuban Corojo, the principal tobacco of Cuban cigar production. Reminiscent of the Colorado Claro, the deep red tinge of the Cuban Corojo is the grail of wrapper growers throughout the Caribbean Basin. So when the producers of Punch, one of the world’s largest cigar makers, achieved success, the reaction from those in the know was enthusiastic. So popular was the original production run of Punch Rare Corojo that it sold out in record time.
Now Punch announces a new incarnation of the Rare Corojo, promising to be even better than the original. This reintroduction again features the scarce dark, oily Corojo wrapper enveloping a select blend of Nicaraguan, Honduran Havana-seed and Dominican filler tobaccos. Complemented with a true Connecticut Broadleaf binder, the Punch Rare Corojo incorporates both quality and rich, robust taste. Like the original, this edition of Punch Rare Corojo is produced in extremely limited production. With the improvements realized with the new variety, this one looks to be even more wildly popular than the first. Obviously, we don’t expect our allotment to last long, nor do we know when we’ll be able to get more, so this offer is not likely to be repeated any time soon. Better order now while you can.

Rating:

Pros: Good Draw, Great Flavor, Well Constructed

One of the cigar industry’s oldest Cuban brands, El Rey del Mundo was made in modest quantities for many years by Frank Llaneza to supply a cadre of a select few cognoscenti who prized this cigar over virtually any other. In recent years the decision was made to reintroduce this cigar to a broader market utilizing the tried and true Cuban methods that have made this one of the longest-lived cigar brands in the industry.

A medium to full-bodied cigar with rich flavor and excellent construction, El Rey del Mundo is handmade in Cofradia, Honduras, with Dominican fillers blended with their rich Honduran counterparts and matched with a well-aged Maduro wrapper. The reincarnation of El Rey del Mundo does Frank Llaneza proud, and you’ll be proud to smoke it too.

Excellent solid smoke.

Catering to the desires of smokers who crave a fuerte cigar with all the characteristics they admire in Sancho Panza, now comes Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte. Like its well-known brother cigar, the Extra Fuerte uses the same San Agustin Honduran wrapper but adds an extra dollop of double cured Cuban-seed Ligero to the filler blend. The extra Ligero kicks up the flavor a notch, giving the Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte the full-bodied taste the more seasoned smoker looks for.

No, Roughneck’s no beauty contest winner. In point of fact, it’s coyote ugly. But if every cloud has a silver lining, for Roughneck it’s the taste. It’s a bright, clean, sweet taste that never lets you down. Roughneck is manufactured by hand in the Cheroot size, one that has been around for ages. However, the thing that sets this cigar apart from the rest is the others are machine made. With its Nicaraguan and Honduran short fillers tucked into a Sumatra wrapper, Roughneck is definitely a cut above. The tip is even sweetened slightly to add an extra dimension of taste.

It's Hard to Top the Value of Gispert Cigars

Wednesday, January 18, 2012 by Pat The Cigar Guy
GISPERT LONSDALE CONNECTICUTThere are cigars for just about every price range and situation. The cheapest of cigars aren't necessarily the worst but they probably aren't going to provide as enjoyable experience as more expensive smokes. Higher priced cigars tend to also receive high ratings because more time and care is usually put into the process of making them. In addition, the best of smokes earn their place of distinction because the people who craft them only use certain types of tobacco, leaf that comes from certain varieties of seed, and are often fanatic about quality control.

Brands like Ashton and Davidoff come to mind when aficionados talk about such high-rated, high quality cigars. Nevertheless, there is at least one brand of cigar that makes use of the same types of leaf as those top-shelf smokes yet offers its cigars for a substantially lower price. The company in question is known as "Gispert" and it's hard to find smokes that provide more bang for your buck than their high quality offerings. These excellent cigars use Honduran tobacco for a robust, bold experience and their quality will make you wonder how they can sell them at such lower prices than other brands.

Find these excellent, discount smokes and all of your cigar needs at Thompson Cigars today.

Bragdon from Northern New Jersey reviewed the HOYO DE MONTERREY EXCALIBUR 1066 DARK KNIGHT I CAMEROON TORO

Cool smoking, smooth with consistent taste down to the last 1½. It has a very good flavor with a beautiful, chocolate brown wrapper. Slightly milder and less complex than Rocky Patel's Sun Grown Torpedo, but then it's $2.00 a smoke cheaper. If cigar aesthetes are important, this is an impressive cigar – looks great in your hand. Other cigar smokers will take note – take the band off and let 'em guess! If it's not a 90, it's an 89.

With its Cameroon wrapper and its full-bodied Honduran blend, Excalibur 1066 from the acclaimed maker of Hoyo de Monterrey represents the most successful introduction of a new cigar brand in over twenty years. All of that phenomenal success has to do with the way the Cuban-seed tobaccos are slowly and carefully cured to blend so smoothly with the Cameroon wrapper. Excalibur 1066 is truly an extraordinary smoke, combining the full-bodied taste of its Honduran origin with the rich, spicy finish provided by its Cameroon wrapper. Combining outstanding flavor at an attractive price, Excalibur 1066 is fast becoming a legend in its own right, a fitting tribute to its namesake.

Of course, I’ve seen bundles of cigars. They are sold that way all the time, but I don’t know that I’ve ever seen cigars sold by the pound. After all, tobacco sells by the pound and that’s the approach to marketing these cigars that is being taken by the legendary Nestor Plasencia.

These cigars are called sandwich cigars because they are a combination of long fillers and short fillers, the very same tobaccos that make up the cigars that sell for hundreds of dollars per box; however, you can get these cigars for a fraction of that. This is the same Cuban-seed filler and binder tobacco that is grown on Plasencia’s Nicaraguan and Honduran farms, carefully fermented and aged to the peak of maturity before being used in the premium brands which he specializes in manufacturing.

To this exceptional tobacco, Plasencia now brings a specially imported Indonesian wrapper, perfect for bringing out the flavor subtleties of the fillers and enhancing them with a spicy richness that sets the taste buds aquiver. But price is the real enticement for these cigars.

This is an authentic Honduran cigar. Born of seed smuggled from Cuba in a diplomatic pouch. Aged and cured in its own time - as nature intended - by the wind and the weather. The Hoyo delivers a bold, straightforward taste. The Excalibur has always been a best seller and a brand we have trouble keeping in stock. The master cigar makers employ their special talents to produce this full-bodied cigar into a world-class cigar.
