Cigars aren't like cigarettes. That's an understatement but what I'm getting at is that cigars simply should not be stored in a cupboard or coat pocket. As befits hand-wrapped works of
art, they require a lot more care. Cigars need their own type of storage and the device is called a "humidor". This special storage device provides just the right amount of humidity and temperature to keep cigars fresh until you smoke them. Cigars must be stored at 68% to 72% humidity or their quality will be seriously lowered when they become too dry. Luckily, humidors are easy to use and are beautiful additions to any room. Always enjoy your
cigars to the fullest by following these tips for storing them in a
humidor:
- Buy the right humidor: The size of the humidor depends on the size of your cigar collection. Get one that will accommodate and showcase present and future smokes.
- Season the humidor: Before putting your cigars in the humidor, wipe down the interior using a cloth dampened with distilled water. Place the cloth or sponge on a piece of plastic inside the humidor, fill the humidification device according to its instructions, close the humidor and let it sit for 24 hours. Then, take out the sponge, wipe down the interior in the same way, and let it sit for another 24 hours.
- Store your cigars: Make sure the hygrometer is between 65% and 72% humidity and that the inside of the humidor is not damp, and put your prized cigars inside. If the humidor is still damp, wait another 24 hours before storing your smokes.
